Ayam-e-Fatimiya falls twice in 2026. The first Ayam-e-Fatimiya, 13 Jamadi al Awwal 1448, falls on 24 October 2026. The second Ayam-e-Fatimiya, 3 Jamadi al Thani 1448, falls on 13 November 2026. Both dates are subject to the moon sighting and may shift by a day in Pakistan, Iraq or Iran.
The same days are written several ways in Pakistan — Ayyam-e-Fatimiya, Ayam-e-Fatima, Ayam-e-Fatmiyah or Ayyam-e-Fatimiyah. They all mean the same thing: the two periods of mourning held for Sayyida Fatima Zahra (s.a), and both fall on the dates below.
Ayam-e-Fatimiya 2026 dates at a glance
| Occasion | Islamic date | 2026 date |
|---|---|---|
| First Ayam-e-Fatimiya | 13 Jamadi al Awwal 1448 | 24 October 2026 |
| Second Ayam-e-Fatimiya | 3 Jamadi al Thani 1448 | 13 November 2026 |
Why Ayam-e-Fatimiya is observed on two different dates
This is the question that confuses most people, and it is not a disagreement about the calendar. It is a disagreement about history. The exact day on which Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a) was martyred is not recorded with certainty, and two narrations have come down to us: one placing it 75 days after the passing of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.w), and the other 95 days.
Counting 75 days brings you to 13 Jamadi al Awwal. Counting 95 days brings you to 3 Jamadi al Thani. Rather than choose between the two, most of the Shia world observes both. The first is commonly called Ayam-e-Fatimiya Awwal and the second Ayam-e-Fatimiya Thani, and in many cities the azadari continues for several days around each.
How the 2026 dates are worked out
Jamadi al Awwal 1448 begins on 12 October 2026, which places 13 Jamadi al Awwal on 24 October. Jamadi al Thani 1448 begins on 11 November 2026, which places 3 Jamadi al Thani on 13 November.
One caution worth stating plainly: the Islamic month begins with the sighting of the new moon, so these dates can move by a day. Pakistan, Iraq and Iran do not always begin a month on the same evening, and a group travelling abroad may find the majalis starting a day earlier or later than at home. If you are booking travel around these days, build in a day either side rather than arriving on the exact date.
Where Ayam-e-Fatimiya is observed
In Pakistan the majalis are held in imambargahs across Karachi, Lahore and every city with a Shia community, usually in the evening and often continuing late into the night.
In Iraq, Karbala and Najaf fill for the first Ayam-e-Fatimiya. The sehan of the Haram of Imam Hussain (a.s) is given over to azadari, and the processions move between the two Harams through the night.
In Iran, Qom is the centre for the second Ayam-e-Fatimiya. The bazaars around the shrine of Hazrat Masuma (s.a) close, the hawza suspends its lessons, and the whole city keeps the same rhythm. It is observed on a scale that is difficult to describe to anyone who has not stood in it.
Travelling for Ayam-e-Fatimiya in 2026
Because the dates are fixed by the Islamic calendar and cannot be moved, groups for Ayam-e-Fatimiya fill earlier than most. Karwan-e-Habib runs departures from Karachi for both.
For the first Ayam-e-Fatimiya on 24 October, our Iraq groups travel for the majalis in Karbala and Najaf, and there is an Umrah group for Ayam-e-Fatmiyah in Madina for those who would rather be in the Haramain. Our guide to Iraq Ziyarat from Pakistan covers the route, and the price guide sets out what it costs.
For the second Ayam-e-Fatimiya on 13 November, our Ayyam-e-Fatimiya in Iran group departs Karachi on 10 November 2026 and is in Qom for the majalis, with six nights in Mashhad beforehand. If you are travelling to Iran for the first time, our guide to the Iran visa for Pakistani nationals explains the paperwork. Every current departure is listed on our packages page.
